Obee" href="http://www.woodkull.com/attorneys/john-a-obee/">John Obee. Mr. Obee has been a very active and successful FHCMD Cooperative Attorney and a member of the FHCMD Board of Directors since the mid-1980s. He was awarded the leadership award for his activities as a fair housing educator and trainer, especially with the members of the real estate industry. He has given numerous fair housing presentations to members of the National, Michigan, and local Association of Realtors; many real estate brokerages have relied on his fair housing knowledge to train their sales agents; and lawyers who represent both plaintiffs and defendants in housing discrimination lawsuits have benefited from his legal and fair housing skills and experience. The award ceremony was held at the Historic Hecker-Smiley Mansion on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.

On April 19, 2011, the Michigan Court of Appeals issued its opinion and order vacating the judgment of the Michigan Tax Tribunal. Robert J. Kull represented the Petitioners in this property tax appeal. The Court of Appeals determined that the Petitioners were denied their right to due process of law when the Tax Tribunal issued its opinion and judgment without a full and fair hearing. The case involved the delayed uncapping of the taxable value of residential property following an alleged transfer of ownership. The Court of Appeals remanded the matter to the Tax Tribunal for further proceedings. Michigan laws at issue included MCL 211.27a, 211.27b, 205.735 and 205.735a.

The Michigan Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal of a tier two auto parts supplier, ending a 5 year battle by a firm client for damages and lost profits originating in the Wayne County Circuit Court. Although our client was originally sued as a Defendant, a counterclaim was immediately filed. Partner Brian H. Herschfus conducted the lengthy jury trial. Our client received over $8 Million on its counterclaim, the Plaintiff receiving nothing on its claims. The jury verdict was affirmed by the Michigan Court of Appeals in the spring of 2010. The recent action of the Supreme Court finalized the $8 Million jury verdict in our client’s favor.
