Yousif G. Yatoma
Yousif (Joe) G. Yatoma is an Associate Attorney of Wood, Kull, Herschfus, Obee & Kull, P.C., practicing general civil law including commercial and residential real estate transactions and litigation, business transactions and litigation, contract law, bankruptcy, fair housing and collections. Mr. Yatoma received his Juris Doctorate degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School with a concentration in civil litigation and received his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Wayne State University with a focus in political science and criminal justice.
Mr. Yatoma counsels clients with practical and legal advice with respect to all aspects of general civil litigation, and provides seamless counsel in a wide array of transactional and business settings. He represents and guides real estate owners and developers in the acquisition, financing, leasing and disposition of residential, commercial, retail and manufactured housing properties. He also handles all aspects of issues related to contracts, including creation, review, negotiation and disputes. Prior to joining Wood, Kull, Herschfus, Obee & Kull, P.C., Mr. Yatoma worked for a real estate law firm handling commercial and residential real estate litigation, bankruptcy, fair housing and property management and compliance. He also previously worked at a criminal defense law firm defending clients in both misdemeanor and felony cases, and a dominant civil defense firm representing private and public corporations, insurance companies, and fully array of healthcare providers in the healthcare transactions, corporate, compliance and regulatory matters. His prior work experience also includes several years of owning and operating successful family businesses.
While attending law school, Mr. Yatoma was an avid Moot Court competitor and served as a Vice President of the 10 Commandments of Real Estate Society, Parliamentarian of the Student Bar Association, and Treasurer of the Health Law Society. He was the recipient of the Certificate in Merit in health law for his academic excellence. Additionally, Mr. Yatoma served as a Pro-Bono Junior Associate for the Immigration Outreach Program and the Bankruptcy Seminar providing pro bono services to indigent clients in the area of business and family immigration law, and the substantive and procedural process of bankruptcies. He also studied abroad at University of Toronto Law School in Toronto, Canada and earned the Certificate of Merit for his success in international economic law and institutions. He also studied law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid, Spain through William & Mary School of Law focusing on comparative regulatory and administrative liability, human rights, security regulations and internet law.
Mr. Yatoma is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and Chaldean American Bar Association. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Mr. Yatoma is fluent in both Arabic and Chaldean (Aramaic).
