John A. Obee

John A. Obee acts of counsel to Wood, Kull, Herschfus, Obee & Kull, P.C. For over 30 years, Mr. Obee practiced all aspects of real estate law and real estate litigation, with an emphasis on Realtor® errors and omissions matters. Mr. Obee is an honors graduate of Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Michigan, where he was a member and editor of the Law Review. Upon completion of law school, Mr. Obee served a judicial clerkship with the late Honorable Blair Moody, Jr. of the Michigan Supreme Court. Mr. Obee followed his clerkship at the United States Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, where he was an Assistant United States Attorney.

Mr. Obee has served for many years as General Counsel for the Down River and the Monroe County Associations of Realtors®.  Mr. Obee has successfully litigated hundreds of matters involving real estate agents and brokers. He has implemented innovative litigation techniques to address cutting edge issues involving the real estate industry, including issues involving black mold, fraud and misrepresentation issues and disclosure questions. He has successfully argued cases in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Obee has lectured to real estate groups, lawyers and associations of Realtors® throughout the State of Michigan. He has developed training programs for Realtors® on ethics issues, fair housing-related matters and buyer agency and designated agency issues. He has written extensively on real estate issues in both scholarly and trade publications. He is a recognized expert in fair housing issues, being an Adjunct Professor of Law at Michigan State University College of Law, as well as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit Law School.

In addition to his expertise in real estate litigation, Mr. Obee is a National Academy of Arbitrators member and a distinguished arbitrator for construction, real estate and labor matters. Mr. Obee serves on a number of labor panels, including the American Arbitration Association, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Michigan Employment Relations Commission and the United States Postal Service. Mr. Obee serves as a Hearing Referee for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
