What is Law Day?

Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law and its foundational role in American society. It was officially established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who recognized the importance of educating citizens about their legal rights and responsibilities in a democracy. Celebrated every year on May 1, and often throughout the entire month of May, Law Day highlights how laws help protect our freedoms and promote justice, equality, and order.

Each year, the American Bar Association (ABA) selects a theme to focus on current legal and civic topics. Law Day is marked by public programs, educational events, speeches, and community outreach activities aimed at building understanding and respect for the legal system.
